Pinewoods geranium brightens the understory of western montane forests with vibrant magenta blossoms from late spring through late summer. Clumped stems arise from a deep taproot, bearing palmately lobed leaves that often turn crimson as autumn approaches. Once pollinated, mature seed pods curve upward and fling seeds several meters away through a spring-loaded ejection mechanism.
