Ganoderma resinaceum

This impressive bracket fungus forms thick, semi-circular shelves on the roots and lower trunks of living or dead hardwood trees. A melting resinous wax coat covers the shiny reddish-brown upper surface, softening when warmed with a flame. Creamy white pore surfaces underneath bruise yellowish before darkening, discharging vast clouds of rusty brown spores across surrounding bark.
