Reishi Mushroom

Also known as Lingzhi, Varnished Conk, Lacquered Bracket, Red Reishi

These distinctive bracket fungi grow as shelf-like projections or on short, lateral stalks from the base of decaying hardwood trees. Their glossy, lacquered upper surface features concentric growth zones ranging from deep reddish-brown to bright yellow and white at the active growing margin. As white-rot fungi, they play a vital ecological role by breaking down tough lignin and cellulose in dead wood, recycling essential nutrients back into the forest soil.
