Veiled chameleons are striking arboreal lizards easily recognized by the tall, helmet-like casque atop their heads, which helps channel morning dew directly into their mouths. They are masters of color change, shifting from brilliant greens to mottled browns, yellows, and blacks to communicate mood, regulate temperature, and blend into their leafy surroundings. Highly territorial, these solitary tree-dwellers spend their days navigating branches with specialized zygodactylous feet and a prehensile tail.
