Cobia are torpedo-shaped, inquisitive open-water predators famous for trailing manta rays, whale sharks, and sea turtles to scavenge leftovers or ambush fleeing prey. With their broad, flattened heads and alternating dark brown and white lateral stripes, juveniles bear an uncanny resemblance to remoras before maturing into sleek, powerful pelagic hunters. Highly valued by recreational anglers for their explosive speed and stamina, they also support a rapidly growing global marine aquaculture industry.
