Scurfy twiglet sprouts abundantly on twigs, woodchips, and damp leaf litter throughout much of the temperate world. Its brownish-orange caps start convex before expanding flat, often retaining delicate faint fragments of a veil along the margin when young. Active even during cool damp months, this small saprobic mushroom plays a vital role breaking down fine woody debris in forests and gardens alike.
