Pyropia yezoensis is a prominent red alga native to the cold temperate coastlines of the western Pacific and widely cultivated across East Asia for nori production. It exhibits a complex heteromorphic life cycle, alternating between a visible leafy blade phase attached to intertidal rocks and a microscopic shell-boring filamentous phase. In coastal ecosystems, these red algae absorb excess dissolved nutrients while providing shelter and nursery habitat for small marine invertebrates.
