Balaustium murorum
Balaustium murorumAlso known as Concrete Mite, Sidewalk Mite
Sidewalk mites are tiny, intensely bright red arachnids that emerge in vast numbers during warm spring days to scurry across concrete walls and paved surfaces. Unlike many of their predatory relatives, these mites feed primarily on pollen grains accumulated on sun-warmed rocks and urban structures. They move with remarkable speed in chaotic, searching paths before retreating into deep masonry cracks as temperatures rise.
