Cliff stonecrop forms low-growing mats of succulent grey-green foliage on rocky ledges and alpine cliffs across its native Japanese island of Hokkaido. Round leaves take on a subtle reddish tinge under bright sun, storing moisture to endure harsh cliffside droughts. In early autumn, massed clusters of star-shaped purplish pink flowers blanket the trailing stems, attracting late-season bees and butterflies.
