Butterfly stonecrop forms fleshy, grey-green clumps that store water in thick succulent leaves to endure summer droughts. In late summer and early autumn, flat-topped clusters of starry pink flowers open, creating a critical nectar station for migrating butterflies and bees. As winter approaches, the fading blooms turn a rich bronze hue, providing structure and seeds through the cold months.
