Yellow Trumpet Flower

Tecoma stans

Also known as Yellow Trumpetbush, Yellow Bells, Yellow Elder, Ginger Thomas

Yellow trumpet flowers light up dry scrublands and sunny gardens across the Americas with dense clusters of bright golden, funnel-shaped blossoms. Hummingbirds and bees flock to the nectar-rich tubes, while long, slender seed pods dangle from the branches after pollination. Highly drought-tolerant and fast-growing, this adaptable shrub blooms continuously throughout warmer months and easily reseeds in open, sunlit ground.

Responsible observation
  • Pollinator Watching: Position yourself near blooming clusters in the morning to observe feeding hummingbirds and bees.
  • Optimal Sun: Look for the most prolific flower displays on plants growing in full, unshaded sunlight.
  • Seed Identification: Check mature branches for long, brown pod-like capsules hanging in pairs.
