Vivid bright yellow fruitbodies break through moist potting soil, adding a burst of tropical color to indoor houseplants and greenhouses. These saprotrophic fungi feed on dead organic material in potting mixtures, decomposing bark and peat without harming surrounding plant roots. A tiny ring encircles the fragile stem beneath a pleated, umbrella-like cap that typically expands and collapses within a few days.
