Blue Mockingbird
Melanotis caerulescensAlso known as Mulato, Blue Mocking-Thrush
Draped in deep dusky-blue plumage with a velvety black mask and piercing red eyes, Blue Mockingbirds are secretive residents of Mexican thickets and forest edges. They spend much of their time skulking in dense undergrowth, tossing leaf litter aside in search of insects and fallen berries. Despite their shy nature, their presence is announced by a magnificent, varied song filled with expert mimicry of other birds, interspersed with harsh, cat-like mewing calls.
