Black vultures are highly social scavengers that soar gracefully on thermal updrafts using short, broad wings tipped with distinctive white patches. Unlike turkey vultures, they rely primarily on sight rather than smell to locate carcasses, frequently following their sharp-nosed relatives to fresh feeding sites. Monogamous pairs mate for life and roost in large communal groups that coordinate daily foraging trips across farmland, forests, and suburban landscapes.
