Gelada

Also known as Bleeding-heart Monkey, Gelada Baboon

Geladas inhabit the cold, windy grasslands of the Ethiopian Highlands, spending their days grazing in large, complex multi-tiered social groups called bands. They are uniquely adapted for a grass-heavy diet, using specialized precise fingers to pluck blades and seeds while shuffling along the ground on their hams. At night, these striking primates retreat to steep cliff faces for safety against predators like hyenas and leopards.
