African Wildcat

Felis lybica

Also known as Near Eastern Wildcat, Desert Cat, Asiatic Wildcat

African wildcats are the primary wild ancestors of modern domestic cats, retaining keen auditory hunting prowess adapted for arid landscapes. They prowl at twilight and night across vast territories, listening intently for underground burrowing rodents before pouncing with remarkable agility. Unlike many domestic descendants, they sit upright on exceptionally long legs that keep their bodies elevated above hot desert sand.
