Banded Scrubsnail
Praticolella berlandierianaAlso known as Berlandier's Scrubsnail
Banded scrubsnails inhabit subhumid brushlands and coastal plains, frequently climbing fence posts, cactus pads, and woody shrubs to estivate safely above the baking soil. During humid evenings and after rainfall, they glide across the ground to graze on biofilms, fungal spores, and decomposing leaf litter. Their smooth, globose shells display a porcelain-white base accented by delicate cinnamon-brown spiral bands that scatter their silhouette among dappled thorns.

- Search After Rain: Look for active snails gliding along trails and garden mulch during warm, damp weather.
- Inspect Stems: Scan low thornscrub branches and wooden posts where resting snails cement themselves to avoid heat.
- Do Not Pull: Never rip an estivating snail from a dry surface, as breaking its dried mucus seal causes lethal desiccation.
