Tan crab spiders prowl leaf litter and low foliage across North American woodlands, blending seamlessly against dry leaves with their mottled brown and tan camouflage. Unlike web-weaving spiders, these robust ambushers rely on patience and oversized, spiny front legs to snatch passing prey in a sudden grip. During mating, cautious males tether larger females to the substrate with silk threads to prevent courtship cannibalism.
