Shaggy-stalked Bolete
Aureoboletus betulaShaggy-stalked boletes are striking woodland mushrooms distinguished by their remarkably tall, deeply grooved, and lacerated stems that resemble rough tree bark. They form ectomycorrhizal partnerships underground with hardwood trees, especially oaks, exchanging water and soil nutrients for plant sugars. Fruiting bodies emerge singly or in loose clusters throughout mid-to-late summer, often standing high above the leaf litter after soaking rains.
