Muscovy ducks are large tropical waterfowl known for their distinctive bare red facewattles and surprisingly quiet demeanor, communicating through soft hisses rather than loud quacks. Unlike most ducks, they possess sharp claws on their webbed feet that allow them to perch in forest canopy trees where they roost and nest in natural tree cavities. While wild individuals display glossy black plumage with bold white wing patches, feral and domestic populations feature variable coloration ranging from piebald to pure white.
