Red-rumped swallows swoop gracefully over open countryside, catching flying insects on the wing with remarkable aerial agility. They build closed, bottle-shaped mud nests with narrow entrance tunnels under rock overhangs, bridges, and building eaves. Their distinctive rufous rump, dark cap, and deeply forked tail make them easily distinguishable from other swallows during flight.
