Rodrigues Parrot
Necropsittacus rodricanusAlso known as Leguat's Parrot, Rodrigues Green Parrot
Rodrigues parrots were large, heavy-billed parrots with vivid green plumage that frequented the canopies and limestone forest understories of Rodrigues Island. Contemporary observers noted their preference for dense wooded islets when seeking refuge from predators, nesting securely inside hollow tree trunks. Invasive black rats, feral cats, and hunting by visiting sailors rapidly drove this island endemic to extinction by the mid-18th century.
