water fringe
Nymphoides peltataAlso known as Yellow Floating Heart, Fringed Water Lily, Floating Heart, Entire Marshwort
Water fringe roots deep in rich muddy bottoms, sending slender stems upward to anchor round, leather-textured leaves that float seamlessly on quiet waters. Radiant yellow blossoms open on bright sunny days, displaying five delicate petals with conspicuously fringed margins elevated slightly above the water surface. Long-distance dispersal occurs when sticky, flat seeds hitch rides on the feathers and feet of visiting waterfowl.

Responsible observation

- Habitat Check: Search in sheltered, still, or slow-flowing shallow freshwater habitats.
- Invasive Reporting: Note density outside native Eurasian ranges, where dense mats can choke waterways.
