Schrankia pelicano

Schrankia pelicano

Schrankia pelicano is a diminutive erebid moth native to the montane forests of Sichuan in south-western China. Adults shelter among dense understory vegetation by day, relying on drab forewing patterning to blend seamlessly against bark and leaf litter. At night, they take flight through the forest canopy to seek nectar, using elongated labial palps characteristic of the genus.

Safe to observe at a normal distance.
Responsible observation
  • Light Trapping: Set up an ultraviolet or mercury-vapor light sheet near mixed woodland to observe night-flying adults.
  • Gentle Inspection: Avoid touching resting specimens, as physical contact easily rubs delicate wing scales away.
