Fishers are swift, stocky mustelids that move with agility through forest canopies and across dense forest floors. Exceptionally adapted for hunting, they are one of the few predators capable of successfully preying on porcupines by circling and striking at the unprotected face. Active throughout the year, these solitary hunters establish extensive home ranges in mature mixed and coniferous forests.
