Plant
Iresine herbstii
Iresine herbstiiAlso known as Beefsteak Plant, Chicken Gizzard Plant
Herbst's bloodleaf commands attention in tropical understories with brilliant magenta stems and broad, deeply veined crimson leaves. In native South American forest margins, it forms rambling perennial thickets that flourish in warm, humid conditions with filtered sunlight. Small, inconspicuous greenish-white blossoms appear infrequently on branched panicles, as the plant relies largely on rapid vegetative rooting to carpet the forest floor.
