Woodsy Thyme-moss
Plagiomnium cuspidatumAlso known as Toothed Plagiomnium Moss, Baby-tooth Plagiomnium Moss, Toothed Thyme-moss
Woodsy thyme-moss forms bright green, cushion-like mats along damp forest floors, decaying logs, and shady limestone outcrops. Its delicate leaves bear microscopic, tooth-like margins visible under a hand lens, giving rise to its common nickname baby-tooth moss. During moist seasons, upright sporophytes emerge crowned with tiny nodding capsules that release spores into the forest breeze.
