Kotschy's thyme forms low, aromatic woody mats across stony alpine slopes and subalpine steppes of Western Asia. Its small, green leaves release a strong herbaceous fragrance rich in essential oils when brushed. During midsummer, dense clusters of pinkish-purple blossoms bloom at the stem tips, drawing in numerous native pollinators.
