Alabama bass excel in moving waters with rocky substrate, actively hunting in moderate to swift currents where other black bass species rarely venture. Adults establish home ranges around submerged logs, rock ledges, and deep river pools, preying heavily on crayfish and small aquatic organisms. Introductions outside their native Mobile River basin have caused significant hybridization concerns for native riverine bass.
