Fireweed carpets burned landscapes and disturbed ground with towering spires of brilliant magenta flowers. Each bloom opens sequentially from bottom to top, attracting swarms of native bees before transforming into slender seedpods packed with thousands of silky, wind-dispersed plumes. As an aggressive pioneer plant, its extensive underground rhizomes quickly stabilize exposed soil across the northern hemisphere.
