Love-lies-bleeding

Amaranthus caudatus

Also known as Pendant Amaranth, Tassel Flower, Velvet Flower, Kiwicha

Love-lies-bleeding is an ancient Andean crop grown both for its nutrient-dense seed grains and its dramatic, cascading ropes of crimson flowers. The long, pendant inflorescences can trail down over a meter in length, composed of thousands of tiny, tightly packed blossoms that retain their vivid color when dried. Today, it thrives across sunny gardens and agricultural fields worldwide as both an ornamental centerpiece and a resilient grain crop.
