Regent honeyeaters move across southeastern Australia following the unpredictable flowering of key eucalyptus and mistletoe species. Strikingly patterned in black and gold, these woodland birds build deep cup-shaped nests in mature canopy trees to rear their chicks. Declining populations have led to an unusual phenomenon where young males lose their traditional song dialect, mimicking other honeyeater species instead.
