Elegant Goldenrod

Stout leafy stems rise from creeping rhizomes to produce compact, plume-like sprays of tiny yellow flowerheads from midsummer through frost. These late-season blossoms provide crucial nectar and pollen reserves for migrating butterflies and overwintering bumblebee queens when few other floral resources remain. In damp meadows and montane thickets, vigorous colonial root networks actively stabilize moist soils against seasonal runoff.
