Chinese skinks are active, ground-dwelling lizards known for their smooth, glossy scales and dramatic juvenile coloration featuring bright yellow stripes and a vibrant neon-blue tail. As adults, males often develop broad reddish-orange sides along their heads and flanks during the spring breeding season. They inhabit subtropical forest floors, agricultural terraces, and rocky hillsides where they forage tirelessly for small invertebrates.
