Tropical house geckos are adept nocturnal climbers that thrive alongside humans, staking out territories around illuminated doorways and porch lights to ambush moths and other insects drawn to the glow. They communicate through sharp chirps and squeaks to establish territory and deter rivals on vertical walls. When threatened by a predator, they readily drop their tails in a burst of violent twitching, allowing the lizard to dash into safety while leaving behind a thrashing distraction.
