Giant Fosa
Cryptoprocta speleaAlso known as Giant Fossa, Cave Fossa, Spelean Fossa
Giant fosas were the apex mammalian predators of subfossil Madagascar, dwarfing their modern living relative with heavy, robust limbs and powerful jaws. Subfossil remains from cave deposits indicate they were formidable ambush hunters capable of taking down giant subfossil lemurs. Their extinction coincided with the arrival of human settlers, extensive deforestation, and the collapse of the island's megafauna.
