Liriope
Liriope muscariAlso known as Big Blue Lilyturf, Lilyturf, Border Grass, Monkey Grass
Lilyturf forms arching tufts of dark evergreen foliage that resemble lush forest grasses throughout the year. Dense spikes of violet to lavender blossoms arise from the center of each clump in late summer, giving way to glossy black berries by autumn. Drought tolerant and adaptable, this hardy perennial thrives in deep shade where few other flowering plants survive.

- Why interaction risk is high
- Berries and foliage are mildly toxic to pets if ingested; wild berries have toxic look-alikes.
Responsible observation
- Garden Placement: Position in partial to full shade with well-draining soil for optimal growth.
- Spring Maintenance: Shear old foliage back to ground level in late winter before new shoots appear.
- Containment: Monitor plantings near woodland borders to prevent accidental escape into wild areas.
