Chinese Flame Tree

Koelreuteria bipinnata

Also known as Chinese Golden Rain Tree, Bougainvillea Golden-rain Tree

Chinese flame trees develop broad, umbrella-shaped canopies of doubly pinnate foliage that provide dense summer shade. By midsummer, upright branched panicles erupt into vibrant yellow blossoms that attract a diverse array of pollinators. In early autumn, these blooms give way to papery, rose-pink lantern capsules that rustle in the breeze and linger long after the leaves drop.

  • Foliage Check: Observe the doubly compound leaves to distinguish it from once-pinnate relatives.
