Bearded Beggarticks
Bidens aristosaAlso known as Western Tickseed, Showy Tickseed, Swamp Marigold, Tickseed Beggarticks
Bearded beggarticks transforms low meadows and moist roadsides into seas of brilliant gold each late summer. Swarms of native solitary bees, bumblebees, and butterflies visit the rich nectar disks during peak flowering. By autumn, the spent flower heads develop barbed, flattened seeds with rigid awns that hitchhike effortlessly on mammal fur or hikers' socks to colonize distant damp ground.
