Bluestem Goldenrod
Solidago caesiaAlso known as Blue-stemmed Goldenrod, Wreath Goldenrod, Woodland Goldenrod
Bluestem goldenrod arches gracefully through deciduous forests, distinguished by slender, wiry stems coated in a distinctive bluish or purple waxy bloom. Unlike sun-loving meadow goldenrods that produce large terminal plumes, its tiny yellow flower heads cluster tightly along the upper leaf axils. Blooming late into autumn, it provides a vital burst of nectar and pollen for woodland bees and migratory hoverflies when few other forest understory flowers remain.
