Crab cacti cling to tree branches and mossy rocks in the high-humidity canopy of Brazil's coastal rainforests. Their flattened stem segments feature distinctive, tooth-like projections along the margins that resemble crab claws. Striking asymmetric flowers bloom at the stem tips in bright shades of magenta, red, orange, and white, pollinated in the wild by hummingbirds.
