Thriving in nutrient-poor and disrupted soils, perennial wall-rocket anchors itself with a tenacious taproot that easily penetrates masonry crevices, railway gravel, and coastal dunes. Its sulfur-yellow blossoms emit an intense sweet fragrance throughout spring and summer, contrasting with the pungent, peppery aroma released whenever the blue-green leaves are bruised. As a resilient pioneer, it stabilizes loose ground and provides an extended season of nectar and pollen to local insects.
