Common self-heal forms low creeping mats across lawns, fields, and forest edges, producing dense cylindrical flower heads with two-lipped purple blossoms. Each flower cluster features overlapping bracts that resemble small shingles, forming a distinct square spire. Bees and butterflies frequent these blooms throughout summer, transferring pollen while drinking nectar from the tubular flowers.
