Wood forget-me-nots carpet damp forest floors and riverbanks in spring, producing soft clouds of five-petaled sky-blue blossoms around bright yellow central eyes. Bees and hoverflies frequently visit the flower clusters, which unfurl gradually along coiled stems as each bloom opens. Although native to European woodlands, these resilient plants self-seed readily and have naturalized in shady gardens and moist wild places across temperate regions worldwide.
