Queensland kauri pines dominate tropical and subtropical rainforest canopy layers with exceptionally straight, columnar trunks and smooth, flaking bark. These majestic conifers produce heavy, spherical seed cones that shatter upon ripening to release winged seeds into canopy breezes. Historically prized by timber cutters for soft, clear wood, surviving ancient trees now stand protected as living heritage pillars.
