European Polecat

European polecats lead solitary lives, hunting along riverbanks, hedgerows, and woodland edges under the cover of dusk and night. Their powerful jaws easily overpower frogs, voles, and rabbits, which they frequently cache underground during winter months. When threatened, these compact carnivores arch their backs, puff up their fur, and release a pungent, musk-laden secretion from anal glands.
