Beech martens are remarkably adaptable night foragers recognizable by their stark white throat bib that splits down the front legs. Equally at home scaling rugged alpine slopes or navigating suburban rooftops, these agile mustelids frequently den in barns, attics, and rock crevices. In European towns, they are infamous for taking shelter under vehicle hoods and chewing through rubber hoses and ignition wires.

- Generally shy around humans; never corner or handle a trapped marten as it can deliver a painful bite.

- Equipped with sharp canine teeth and strong jaws, martens can bite severely if trapped or grabbed.

- Look for a slender brown body with a bright white throat patch that forks down onto the upper legs.

- Give cornered animals a wide berth and clear exit path rather than trying to capture them yourself.

- Vehicle Safety: Use protective cable wraps if parking overnight in regions with active marten populations.
