Sarcosuchus imperator

Sarcosuchus imperator

Also known as SuperCroc, Emperor Crocodile

Sarcosuchus imperator patrolled expansive river systems across Cretaceous North Africa, lurking submerged along shorelines to ambush unsuspecting dinosaurs and giant fish. Its elongated skull terminated in a prominent bulbous expansion known as a bulla, which likely amplified territorial vocalizations and aided in olfactory sensing. Unlike modern crocodilians, it took decades to reach its colossal adult dimensions, protected by a dense mosaic of overlapping osteoderms.
