Megalania prisca
Megalania priscaAlso known as Giant Ripper Lizard
Megalania reigned as the apex terrestrial predator across Pleistocene Australia, hunting giant marsupials, flightless birds, and tortoises. Robust recurved teeth lined with serrations along the trailing edges allowed it to tear through tough hide and incapacitate massive prey. Fossil trackways and osteological analyses indicate it ambushed prey from dense vegetation, relying on explosive bursts of speed rather than long pursuit.
