Bright yellow blossoms erupt from bare stems during the dry season, creating a striking contrast against the arid Cerrado landscape. A large underground woody tuber called a xylopodium allows the shrub to survive frequent savanna fires and resprout rapidly once rains return. The large, papery seed pods split open to reveal soft, cottony fibers that aid in wind dispersal.
